(This feature is in development.)
We’re ready to show you our first version of Home Ownership in the village of Tyrehampton! For now, you can claim any unoccupied “terraced house” as your own. It is important to note we currently intend to reset home ownership before our official launch. (Any furnishing purchases you make in the Marketplace during Open Beta will still be available to you after the game’s future launch.)
Homes are currently owned and can be redecorated by only a single character. In the future, we intend to allow you to customize your home permissions with Family or visiting friends.
Awaiting the Home Ownership feature, our clever player community has been honoring each other’s claims to certain homes and have been building stories around these locations. With our first version of Home Ownership you are strongly encouraged to look at the pages of this forum thread before finding a home to claim:
Starting out finding a home
Join the Story “In Want of a House” from the Writing Desk to obtain a Housing Certificate.
Once you have joined the Story, there will be a Housing Certificate on the Writing Desk waiting for you. Click on it to pick it up and put it in your inventory.
Your Task List now prompts you to find an unowned house. Home Ownership is currently restricted only to “terraced houses” in the village of Tyrehampton with the current game update. The “terraced houses” can be identified by the small, fenced garden in the front of the home. We will be adding additional housing types in future updates.
You will know which ones are available because the name-plates on the exterior near the front door will have gilt (gold) lettering. An occupied or otherwise unavailable home will have grey lettering on the name plate.
For example, this home is unavailable. Using the certificate in this home will not claim the home for you.
In this example, this home is available for you to claim. (The plaque lettering is gold.)
When you have found an available terraced house in a location you are fond of, enter the house by walking through the door. (Currently the doors are non-functional. For now, just step through them as if they are opening for you.) Your Task List will update.
Click on the certificate in your Inventory and click the “Use” button while in an unoccupied home to claim the home. You will find the title in your inventory’s Purse.
The Story will successfully complete when you have claimed a home. Your address plaque will now have grey lettering.
Note: With this first implementation, there is no way to easily check which home you own without checking the address plaques. Click on any address plaque to show the home owner’s name in Chat.
After you claim a home you can redecorate the wall coverings and move the furniture around. If you desire more furnishings, such as a chess table or a privacy screen, you can make additional purchases in the Marketplace. (Future updates will include flooring options, additional wallcoverings and more furniture options.)
Relinquishing your claim on a home
If you no longer wish to own a home you may use the command /unown (in chat) while in your home. This will make the house immediately available for another character to claim. At this time, you will not be able to re-join the Story “In Want of a House” again to claim another home until the server has been reset. We usually reset the server once per day. Please contact Customer Service if you have any questions or problems with Home Ownership.
If you delete your character your home will become unowned and available again for claim. At this time, other character online when your character is deleted will need to log out and return to see the house plaque again turn gold as available.
