(This feature is in development.)
When you join a story you are helping to solve (or cause) a scripted problem, make a discovery or make a choice that fits your character's personality. (Stories are our version of "quests" if you have played other MMO and RPG games.) A story may ask you to help an NPC (non-player character), such as in "The Lost Handkerchief". Some stories can be played alone and others require one or more other players to complete.
As we continue to develop the story and family systems, some will require you to be a member of a family in a specific role. (This family feature is similar to a "guild" in other MMO games.) For example, your mother may have a particular person in mind for a marriage match. Will you agree to her choice or attempt a dramatic elopement with your preferred suitor?
Our long term goal is to have an overall story arc for your character, in addition to many stand-alone stories. We want our players to be able to express themselves in different ways and help contribute to each other's stories.
Another long term goal is to open our story building tool up to our players. This will take a fair amount of time, more development work and lots of testing on our side before we start a pilot program. We know we are lucky to have some immensely creative and talented writers in our player base and would love to allow them to contribute to everyone's experience in the game.
To begin one of our current stories you will need to use the Writing Desk, which is currently located in Mrs. Hatch's parlor. (We intend to include portable writing desks in the future.) Left click on the writing desk at the back of the room to open the Writing Desk window.
Click on the "Stories" button in the writing desk to open the current list of Stories. Click on a story to check the requirements and see if it's available for you to join.
Each story has a "hint" and "spoiler" article in the Knowledge Base if you get stuck. Click the "Join" button, if you are eligible, and look at the Task List to begin a new story.
